THE VOW OF RESIDENCE (August 10, 2007)
As I am reading about the lives of yogis of times past, I am fascinated by all kinds of vows that they have taken: the vow of silence, the vow of abstinence, the vow of adherence to a set of principles, and so forth. For a brief moment I contemplate a vow I could take in my own turn: the vow of residence. That is, the vow to remain in one place without ever leaving it even for a walk. The place is Motovun, it goes without saying. A moment later I pull away from the brink. For better or worse, I am not yet ready for such a formidable vow. To my amazement, I have not read about a single yogi who has gone that far, either.
