SO MANY SNOWLESS WINTERS (January 30, 2003)

It snowed a little last night, but it started snowing again as I was walking to my office. It was still dark. There was no wind. Thick snow came straight down. The snowflakes struck me as unusually large. Whenever I walked past a street-lamp, I marveled at their fluffy shadows that rushed toward the light from all sides. For some reason, I do not remember seeing something like this ever before. Or I have already forgotten it after so many snowless winters in Southern England.
