ON SELECTING A TITLE (January 10, 2003)

With more than five-thousand titled pieces of text in my Residua, I need to check my files when selecting a title more and more often. Every now and then I need to look for another title because the one I have had in mind has been used already, usually many years earlier. Still, I marvel at so many titles that turn out to be unique on the first try. I must be doing something right.

Addendum (December 11, 2016)

With more than seventeen-thousand titled pieces of writing in my Residua, I need to check my files when selecting a title every single time. As of late, my Directory file serves mainly for this purpose. Just like before, every now and then I need to look for another title because the one I had in mind has been used already. But I still marvel at so many titles that turn out to be unique on the first try. I must be doing something right, no doubt whatsoever. The way my magnum opus is shaping, it will boast around twenty-thousand titled pieces of text by the time I kick the bucket. And every single title will be unique from cover to cover, as it were. Hooray!
