I CORRECTED MYSELF AT ONCE (January 11, 2003)

A spider put its web across a pane on my kitchen window. There is no more than a finger between the web and the glass. “Nothing can fly through here,” I thought at first. “Of course,” I corrected myself at once, “no insect would know this.” The only trouble with the web is that it works only from one side of the window—in this case, from the outside. Anyhow, good luck, old spider!
