FIRE’S CLEVER HIDEOUT (November 11, 2003)

When you take a peek between the burning logs piled up in your fireplace, you discover several entrances to a cozy cave that fire has patiently carved out for itself. The thicker the logs, and the taller their pile, the more ample the fire’s clever hideout. Curvy and smooth, its walls glow orange and red. The bright flames that occasionally burst into the cave through the cracks in the walls burn yellow and blue. Although the fire’s enchanted home sometimes strikes you as empty when you take a good peek, you can always tell it is actually there by the slight shimmer.
