A SPACE SO STRANGE (May 14, 2000)

Looking toward the three Bourgeois towers from the bridge in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern, I was surprised by my own perception: the guards standing at the base of the nearest tower looked smaller than I would have expected. It will take artists a little while to master the Turbine Hall, I realized. It is actually quite amazing how well Louise Bourgeois has done in a space so strange.
