A LUCKY CHICKEN (May 14, 2000)
Jenny Hall keeps all manner of birds in an aviary by her house near Toulouse in France. As we were leaving, she gave an egg to Dorian and instructed him how to hatch it. On our way to the airport in Jenny’s car, the bird came up in conversation. Everyone referred to it as a chicken, but Dorian’s egg was actually that of a pheasant. Maya was curious: “What will the chicken do if we have a salon?” “It will join us,” replied Lauren. “A lucky chicken,” mused Jenny from behind the wheel.
