TIME LAG (August 4, 1992)
A few months ago I realized that going back to Belgrade would be difficult for me: the possibility that I would brush against a butcher nauseated me. Having read yet another story about assorted atrocities in Bosnia, Lauren reported yesterday that going back to Belgrade would be difficult for her: the possibility that she would brush against a butcher nauseated her, too. Both of us know that butchers are rare. The time lag of a few months has to do with the fact that I grew up in Belgrade and she grew up in Los Angeles.
