TO MY TASTE (October 12, 2015)

I am ever more uneasy with Zagreb’s bustle. And I am looking forward to Motovun’s serenity. Now that the tourist season is near its end, it will be to my taste.

Addendum (December 17, 2015)

Now that I am in Motovun, its serenity strikes me as a bit excessive, I must admit. Peace and quiet are wonderful as such, no doubt, but this hilltown is a bit too peaceful and quiet for comfort. As I write, there is not a sound I can hear up or down Borgo, the steep and curvy street on which my house can be found. Not a single sound. Nearly all the houses in my neighborhood are deserted out of the tourist season. To put it bluntly, it all smacks of a cemetery, and no-one ever goes to a cemetery for peace and quiet (“Yet Another Istrian Ghost Town,” December 13, 2015). By comparison, Zagreb’s bustle has its charms, I must also admit. Even though it occasionally strikes me as a bit excessive, it is still bursting with life. To wit, I find Motovun’s serenity attractive while I am in Zagreb, and I find Zagreb’s bustle attractive while I am in Motovun. No wonder I go back and forth all the time. On the average, everything is just to my taste.
