THEIR GHOSTS (October 28, 2015)

My No. 1 son and I are going to Labin and Plomin today. Why? My paternal great grandfather Franjo Jakov (Franciscus Jacobus) was born in Labin (Albona), and my paternal great grandmother Ivka Dinka (Ioanna Dominica) neƩ Massalin was born in Plomin (Flanona). She was born in 1864, and he must have been a few years her senior. Both of them were born before Italy as we know it. There are no traces of either Bons or Massalins in these medieval towns nowadays, but it will still be a pleasure to visit them. We will be their ghosts, as it were. But almost everything we will see there will be new to us. With the possible exceptions of the church towers and some unsuspected views of the islands of Cres and Krk. Alas, that is the fate of all ghosts.
