My haiku is pretty easy to concoct, but it has a few quirks all its own. One-hundred and sixty characters, including spaces, is not very difficult to achieve. After all, there are synonyms galore. Using the last few words as the title is a bit more difficult to deal with, for no two haikus can have the same title. But there is a silly technical problem that annoys me no end. It is the ellipsis. I started writing my poetry on my mobile phone, where the restriction of the number of characters comes from. There, an ellipsis counts as three characters. But when I transfer a haiku to my computer, the ellipsis counts as a single character. True to the origin of my haiku, though, I keep the mobile-phone count. Whence many a confusion over the years. Thus I tend to use the ellipsis only rarely in my poetry, which makes me really cross. For crying out loud, this is one of my favorite punctuation marks!
