THE AGE OF BROKEN RECORDS (August 23, 2015)
As it turns out, last month was the warmest on record. The record is sure to be broken in a tick, though. We, the lucky ones, live in the age of broken records.
Addendum I (September 23, 2016)
Having come across this haiku entirely by chance, I searched the World Wide Web for the warmest month on record. According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, it was July 2016. Surprise, surprise. Last year’s record was broken in no more than a year. The proverbial tick is likely to be getting ever shorter, too. In a few short years, it will take but a few months. Soon enough, records themselves will become as boring as death.
Addendum II (October 18, 2016)
This is getting ever more boring, but I just came across a piece of news saying that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration had just announced that September 2016 was the warmest September on record. Soon enough, pieces of news such as this one will be reserved only for experts. The general public will avoid them like the plague. To my surprise, even I feel annoyed by the latest NASA announcement, and I am an expert of sorts. Climate change is close to my heart, as is environmental degradation. Now that we have entered the age of broken records, further announcements of this ilk are for the birds.
