STILL IN THRALL (October 27, 2015)

My No. 1 son and I walked through the vineyards to the west of the Motovun hill yesterday afternoon. The weather was superb. We picked our way to Bataji, where we found the entire Fakin family in their wine cellar. It was a joy to see them all, and we tasted several of their many excellent wines. This morning I woke up with the image of the hilltown on my mind. It appeared to be etched into my brain. Looking up from the vineyards, it looked higher then expected. Unreachable. Actually, it looked improbable, a place of dreams. The reddish hew of the vineyards, which were harvested a month ago, added to the amazing beauty of the medieval town. So many years its denizen, I cannot believe that I am still in thrall of its wonder.
