FAKING FOREVER (October 6, 2015)
When I came to one of my favorite cafés in the center of Zagreb this morning, there was nobody sitting close to me. It was just to my liking, too. A short while later, though, a young couple chose a table near me. Even before they sat down, it was clear that they had made love for the first time last night. They just got out of bed, as a matter of fact. In tight embrace, they started exchanging sweet nothings. He kept whispering into her ear, and she kept giggling and giggling. I could not hear what they were saying, but it was obvious enough. Everything about them was perfectly obvious. But her giggling was a dead giveaway for anyone in the know. It was ever-so-slightly fake. And it said a good deal about how she, as it were, giggled in bed, as well. Chances are that this is how she giggles through life entire. Faking forever. In the end, I finished my drink and left the café in a hurry. More often than not, my fellow humans are hard to take. On occasion, they are outright unbearable.
