AN IMPRESSIVE RANGE OF SYMBOLS (September 30, 2015)

I check the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service website every few days. I am not interested in their forecasts, though. Not in the least. Rather, I am amused by their wild guesses about the weather. Just for fun, I started recording their predictions for tomorrow, when I will be going to Zagreb. As I am walking from my house to the bus station in Livade, which takes about forty minutes, the weather is kind of important to me. Among other things, the meteorological site shows maps of Croatia up to seven days in advance. The forecasts come in the form of simple symbols. Six days ago, there were heavy clouds in the middle of Istria. A day later, there were heavy clouds with rain coming out of them. Four days ago, there was sun behind light clouds. A day later, there was sun without clouds. Yesterday, there were heavy clouds once again. And today, there is sun in the cloudless sky one more time. An impressive range of symbols for a single day, no doubt. It will be fun to see the symbol that will pop up in the middle of Istria tomorrow morning. As for the actual weather, it remains anyone’s guess. With some luck, I will reach the bus station in Livade without having to pull the umbrella out of my knapsack.

Addendum (October 1, 2015)

And what does the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service have on offer today? It is heavy clouds. And how is the weather out there? Real weather, that is. Well, it is a pretty nice day. In terms of the symbols used on the vaunted website, it should have been sun behind light clouds. In other words, the good meteorologists got it right only once in seven days. It was five days ago, to be precise. Laughable, as ever.
