A GIANT MOTH (May 9, 2015)
A giant moth landed on a seat of a restaurant on the lower square around noon today, and it stayed there for several hours. Many tourists noticed it, and most of them took pictures of it. While I was on the lower square, hundreds of pictures of the moth were taken. Some of the cameras used for this purpose were quite impressive, as well. But not a single tourist I saw had thought through what they were doing. Without something next to it for scale, the giant moth will look like any old moth with elaborate patterns on its wings. Surprised by their own pictures, they will keep explaining to all and sundry how enormous it actually was. “It was as big as my hand,” they will argue over and over again. The moth was quite obliging, too, and it would not fly away even if something would be placed right next to it for comparison. A free hand would do, for instance. Another index of human stupidity, this? No doubt whatsoever. And a straightforward one that nearly everyone can understand in less than two-hundred words.
