Thus the title of my magnum opus in Chinese characters. In Mandarin or Pinyin, cán zhā stands for remainder, filtered out residue, sediment, waste product, debris, detritus, or rubbish. By itself, zhā stands for dregs or slag. Interestingly, rén zhā means dregs of society or scum in Mandarin, where rén by itself means person. I am not sure why all this is of any interest to me at this juncture, but I find Chinese characters very to my liking. Come to think of it, it would be wonderful to see my Residua translated into Mandarin. All I would be able to read would be the title, but that would still blow the minds of my Chinese friends.
