“TRUMP’S CARD” (August 14, 2015)
Thus the Financial Times today. “Alpha male fantasy that overrides reality,” elaborates the newspaper. Quite stunned by the title and byline, as well as a picture of the tycoon parading his fake teeth, I had hard time shaking the article out of my mind. Alpha male? Fantasy? Reality? In the end, I had to respond to the challenge. Donald Trump is American capitalism personified. His rise to wealth and glory pivoted around real estate accumulated by his father, which he used cunningly without spending a single dollar to reinvigorate the failing property market in New York City. He used many a trick on his way to his present status, including tight control of the friendly media forever in search of tricksters like him. And that is about all there is to this pitiful man. If he can be called an alpha male, this holds only within the narrow scope of capitalism turned financial. His brazen style fascinates many an American is search of the same glory and status achieved on the quick. The reality is that he is plain ridiculous in every sense of this word. Just like American capitalism of this day and age. Financial to boot, it has lost all contact with reality. Only in this sense is Trump an ideal presidential candidate for the land of the free. The joke on presidency fits the joke on economy quite snugly. Which is why I would love him to win the elections. America deserves nothing better or worse than good old Trump, a mere clown. Even his family name is just as it should be. Part and parcel of Trump’s card, to be sure.
