“ISLAMIC STATE RULE TRANSFORMS MOSUL” (June 10, 2015)

Thus The Wall Street Journal today. “Iraq’s second-largest city has never looked so good thanks to strict laws enforced by Islamic State,” elaborates the newspaper. “But beneath the veneer, residents live in fear.” Quite poetic, this. Both the title and much of the byline seem to be written by one of the aficionados of the Islamic Stated of Iraq and Syria. The picture that comes with the article helps understand the warning at the end, for it shows two tough guys with machineguns. Still, there can be hardly any doubt that there is a touch of longing in the article. Law and order are wished back by the many across both America and Europe. In response to the Islamic challenge, strict Christian laws would be to the liking of an increasing number of people. The Middle Ages come to mind as the model to follow. The way the world is shaping in response to climate change, which cannot but lead to many a war, this can be expected within a few decades. There will be law and order aplenty, but beneath the veneer, everybody will be living in good old fear.
