UNWITTING TOURISTS (November 4, 2012)
According to the people in the know in Motovun, today is the last day of the tourist season. It is Sunday, too. There will be some tourists on weekends through the end of the year, but the crowds are not to be expected any longer. I cannot but accept such an appreciation of tourists and their ways. Those who make a living from them are surely to be trusted in their judgment. But I still feel kind of caught unprepared. Nay, exposed. For some reason, I expected the season to linger a bit longer. At least a few more weeks. And I expected much more fun with tourists of all descriptions. To my surprise, I thus look forward to the next tourist season already. The verve. The faith. The clothing. Ah, I already miss the fools from all around the world. If tourism serves any purpose at all, it is to give a glimmer of hope to those who happen to live in places deemed worth visiting by many. Unwitting tourists, just like me.
