THE TOILET BOWL (November 8, 2012)

I dreamt that I woke up in the middle of the night and went to pee, but that I found the toilet bowl crushed. The tiled floor around it was crushed, as well. It looked as though an elephant sat on it and drove it into the floor underneath it. Except that an elephant could not squeeze into the house, let alone the bathroom. I was stunned by what I saw, and I kept repeating to myself: “How in the world could something like this happen without waking me up next door?” The crunch must have been tremendous, indeed. And then I woke up in the middle of the night and went to pee. The toilet bowl was perfectly fine, it goes without saying. It took me a while to fall asleep again, but crunching sounds woke me up. Damir Gregorović, known to all as Greg, was loading the trailer pulled by Marko Koraca’s tractor with all sorts of junk from his basement. My next-door neighbor showed me yesterday the pile that had to be carted away this morning, and so I expected to be woken up by the noise.
