THE SECOND FLOOR (November 9, 2012)

Yesterday I asked Jozo Brandić to make five more battens for my paintings. On the short side, they would take two paintings each. I gave him a simple drawing with all the dimensions. I also gave him ten brackets with which to fix the battens to the wall. He was finished this morning. He came by with the battens and all the requisite tools, and half an hour later they were installed in the corridor on the second floor of my house. He was still at it when I collected ten paintings from the attic, where there is a stash of about a hundred of them. As he was packing his tools, the paintings were in their places already. “Mind you,” I grinned, “I did not even try to match them.” His job done, Jozo grinned in turn. We shook hands, and he was gone. Now I find myself going to the second floor every few minutes. Everything I need happens to be there.

Addendum (August 17, 2016)

Needless to say, the wall with ten of my paintings in the corridor on the second floor of my house delights me to this day. I look at it whenever I walk down the corridor from the bedroom or bathroom, and I look at it as I climb the stairs. Right next to my study, it is on my way many times a day. But the display is still new in my mind. Brand new, as it were. Which is why I always inspect it with due care. To this day, I am amazed that I did not even try to match the paintings that I collected in the attic. In fact, they look as though they have been selected with utmost care. Pray, what better compliment could I ever get for my Cave Art Now cycle?!
