THE PENIS? (November 30, 2012)
This morning I was surprised when I stumbled upon an enthusiastic review of Tom Hickman’s God’s Doodle: The Life and Times of the Penis (London: Square Peg, 2012) in the current issue of The Economist, of all places. “A seminal work,” the mighty newspaper introduces and concludes its verdict. The three paragraphs of the review are too brief and flighty to accept the recommendation, though. The reader is thus invited to go for the book itself. The word “seminal” is but a quaint etymological joke. As well as a prediction on the eventual spread of Hickman’s play with the male member. But this reader is hardly impressed. For better or worse, I have my own penis to play with. And a matching vagina all my own. If I would write on the subject, I would rather focus on the glorious match between the two. Anyhow, many thanks all around.
