THE PEAK OF THEIR POWER (March 23, 2012)

Since a couple of days ago, I am suffering from a most annoying cold. My nose is dripping like crazy, and I am sneezing uncontrollably every once in a while. The nasal drip is a real nuisance at night, and I wake up more often than usual to stem the flow. But I am letting the cold run its course. I want my own body to master the invasion rather than fight it with drugs of any sort. And this is precisely what most people around me are unwilling to do. They try every kind of drug on offer in the vague hope that the annoyance would vanish as soon as possible. Which only helps the bacteria and viruses along, it goes without saying. Having ricocheted around, though, the colds and flus eventually come my way, as well. No matter what I do not to help them along, I suffer from the silly ways of nearly everyone around me. My only consolation is that the bacteria and viruses will take a while longer to reach the peak of their power. And power it certainly is. What happens in the longer run is anyone’s guess, but drugs are sure to fail the test of time no matter how fast they are developed. One way or another, bacteria and viruses are more resilient than humans. No prize for guessing whose side I am on.
