THE NECKTIE (April 17, 2012)
One of the leading Croatian newspapers reports today that Ivo Sanader, a former prime minister, has appeared in court without a necktie only once since the beginning of his tangled legal battle. Also, in twenty-one appearances in court, he wore the same purple tie no less than nine times. It is undoubtedly his favorite one. This is the best commentary on Sanader’s court ordeal I have seen so far. It is the most precise. And it is the most informative by far. As well as entirely to the point, as the necktie is among the proudest symbols of newborn Croatia.
