THE MOTOVUN RASH (March 9, 2012)

Having started thinking about staying in Motovun over a good part of the tourist season, I suddenly developed a rash on my skin. This happened for the first time when my troubles with the mayor of Motovun started so many years ago. The rash was most insistent during my many visits to the municipal court on Pazin, which he forced upon me ahead of the last municipal elections, and it gradually subsided afterwards. There were hardly any signs of it last year, when I spent most of my time in Zagreb. Anyhow, I am sure of it now. It is a nervous reaction of some kind that manifests itself on the skin. For lack of a proper medical diagnosis, I will call it the Motovun rash. It will take the good doctors a few years to catch up with this diagnosis of mine. Many people in the hilltown must be suffering from all sorts of mysterious diseases, most of which must have some connection to Motovun’s unfriendly environment. And unfriendly it definitely is.
