THE GARBAGE (January 18, 2012)

I am annoyed with myself. A few days ago I bought the current issue of The Economist just to maintain my English, for which it is often lauded far and wide, but I ended up by writing down my idle thoughts about no less than three articles. Who cares about climate change and the scientific muddle surrounding it, though? Who cares about capitalism and corruption that is endemic to it? And who cares about economics and its perpetual, if only ridiculous, quest for a lofty status among respectable sciences? There are so many concerns much closer to my heart. Annoyed with myself, I just tossed the mighty newspaper into the garbage. To hell with it! Let the beggars who forever forage through the garbage bins around the Croatian capital brush up on their English, instead. It may come handy to them now that their country is at the threshold of the European Union. “Can you spare a dime?” for instance.
