SUPERGLUE (July 27, 2012)
A waitress in one of our favorite Zagreb cafés told us a wonderful story this evening. We have been friendly for years. Not long ago, she told us, a friend of hers went on a trip and gave her a parrot to take care of. After a few days, she felt sorry for the bird and let it fly around her place. She had hard time catching it and putting it back in the cage, though. She managed to catch it by the tail, but the tail remained in her hands. She could not return the parrot to her friend in such a sorry shape, she told us, and so she glued the tail back in its place. She used Superglue, too. The trouble was that the tail ended up crooked. Predictably, her friend was not pleased at all when the story came out. But my beloved and I laughed and laughed all the way home. The crooked tail was entirely to our crooked taste.
