STILL YOUNG (November 27, 2012)

I am just sixty-six years of age, I have to remind myself every so often. This is only a year past the retirement age that still holds across much of the world. And it is getting extended left and right. I am far from superannuated, that is. And I should do my best not to fall for the foibles of old age. It is not yet time for dispensing wisdom, let alone for rounding things up, as if death is just behind the proverbial corner. But the urge is still there, perhaps on account of my early retirement a decade ago or so. The urge is so pronounced that it will take real wisdom on my part not to follow it to oblivion. Old man, I have to remind myself every now and then, you are still young and much remains to be done on your way. After all, sixty-six is a year short of retirement age in America, the most developed country in the world. Beat that, old man!
