SIBLINGS (February 24, 2012)

Two humans brush shoulders in a busy street. “Excuse me,” they stammer to each other without looking and keep dashing forth. As it turns out, they are siblings.

Addendum I (February 25, 2012)

Absurd enough? Indeed it is. I was thinking of my No. 1 and No. 2 sons as I was writing this haiku in the two-humans series, which has been growing much faster than expected. They both live in New York City right now. My No. 1 son is working and my No. 2 son is studying there. And the likelihood that they will brush shoulders in a busy street is pretty high. Manhattan is not that big, anyhow. Siblings that they are, though, they would not recognize each other. Absurd enough without any doubt. A worthy addition to the sprawling series, too.

Addendum II (March 16, 2012)

As I learned from my No. 1 son, he met with my No. 2 son about ten days after this haiku was written. He sent me a mobile-phone text message about the event the following day. I have been begging him to tell me more about the meeting ever since, but to no avail. Although I sent him the haiku and the first addendum, too, he remains quiet. All I can gather from the silence is that the siblings have become kind of close. Too close to share the experience with me in any detail. In a way, this makes me happy. I am nothing more than their father, after all.
