SEEING SLOBODAN VUGRINEC (March 27, 2012)
I am seeing Slobodan Vugrinec, the mayor of Motovun, everywhere I go in Zagreb. This morning I saw him driving a car. Around noon I saw him walking past the café in which I was sitting. Yesterday I saw him twice, as well. This is happening to me ever more often although I am pretty sure he is not in Zagreb at all. My return to Motovun is the reason, of course. The man who has caused me so much anxiety is ricocheting through my mind ever more often. My eyes are only following my deepest worries. The trouble is that the lawsuit for insult, which he has fabricated several years ago just to stop me in my tracks as his opponent concerning crooked golf development within sight of the hilltown, is still pending. The highest court in Croatia is sitting on it for some nine months already. It is nigh impossible to tell when it will come up with its verdict. My victory in Strasbourg is consequently pushed into the future. It may take several more years for me to free myself from this misery. The misery of seeing Slobodan Vugrinec everywhere I go in the Croatian capital just before my return to Motovun.
