SCAREMONGERING, AGAIN (July 1, 2012)

As I read in the online edition of The Wall Street Journal today, at least thirteen people had been killed by violent storms in the Eastern United States: six in Virginia, two in New Jersey, two in Maryland, one in Kentucky, and one in Washington. Many people are still missing. The storms knocked out power to millions of people. Power outages were reported from Indiana to New Jersey, with the bulk of service interruptions in the Mid-Atlantic region. There is much to read about how people have been affected, but there is not a single word about the cause of the storms. Zilch. That has been left to the reader’s imagination. Even mentioning climate change as a possible cause would be sheer scaremongering. In the end, the disagreeable chore has been left entirely to fiends like me.
