ROAMING IN ISTRIA (July 12, 2012)
I bought my Mac Book Air early last year from the company that provides me with the telephone service. My mobile phone is with them, too. It is the largest service provider in the country. Soon after Croatia’s independence, it was sold to a German telecommunications giant. Together with my laptop, I also got a device that connects me to the World Wide Web no matter where I happen to be. I use it rarely while I am in Motovun, for my desktop computer has a direct connection to the web via the phone network, which is serviced by the same company. But I am often surprised when I do use it. More often than not, I get a message that I will be charged for roaming services. Roaming? In other words, Istria is not recognized as an integral part of Croatia. I have complained about this to the service provider, but without any success. The same message pops up quite often when I am in Motovun. The last time this happened was a few minutes ago, but I am not going to complain any longer. Instead, I will be roaming in Istria. God only knows where the peninsula is, anyway. Rome? Germany? Venice? France? Austria? Italy? Yugoslavia? Croatia? Take your pick, but make sure to enjoy your trip.
