RELISH THE RIDDLE (January 26, 2012)

The day is gorgeous. Although there is a nip in the air, the sunshine feels soothing. The sky is spotless. Overcome with joy, I am inspecting trees in central Zagreb. All of them have already sprouted little buds. The trees still seem to be a tad hesitant, but another week of wonderful weather would crack the buds open. Shaking my head, I am not sure whether to feel joyous or gloomy. A few frosty days would be enough to kill the tender leaves. And yet, how not to rejoice at unquestionable signs of spring? Spring in mid-winter, too. The best I can do under the circumstances is to relish the riddle. The riddle that promises to return over and over again.
