PRAYING FOR A STORM, AGAIN (June 19, 2012)

The summer is here ahead of schedule. When my beloved and I came to Motovun five days ago, the house was at twenty-one degree Celsius. When she left two days ago, it was at twenty-two degrees and a half. Now it is at twenty-five degrees and a half. As the sunny spell is likely to continue through the summer solstice, the temperature in the house may eventually reach twenty-eight degrees Celsius even though I keep all the shutters and windows closed all the time. It is like living in a bunker. Thus I am praying for a storm, which will bring the temperature down by a few degrees over as many days. Although the cycle will keep repeating itself through the summer, storms provide the only relief. In spite of the damage they are likely to cause, they are prayed for by many once again. Climate change, what climate change?

Addendum (June 21, 2012)

In spite of all my efforts to cool down the house by leaving several windows wide open during the night, the temperature has gradually risen to twenty-seven degrees Celsius. The sunny spell is due to continue, however. To the best of my knowledge, there is no sign of a storm. In several days the temperature in the house is likely to go beyond twenty-eight degrees. The only thing I can do is do as little as possible. Yoga offers useful advice on this score. Lying on the back like a corpse is just right under the circumstances (“Savasana or Mrtasana,” June 29, 2005). If I occasionally fall asleep in the middle of my yoga practice, so much the better.
