PLASTIC FRUIT (November 12, 2012)
Jozo Brandić likes to tell a story about confusions of modern times. Some people from his village visited someone in the nearby town on the southern flank of Sava River in Bosnia. While the owner of the house stepped out for a minute, one of them grabbed a fruit in a bowl on the table in front of them. He bit into it hard when he heard the owner coming back. The fruit turned out to be made of plastic, and so he did not know what to do with it. It was mangled pretty badly, but he could neither swallow it nor put it back in the bowl. He felt uncomfortable putting it in his pocket, either. There was much laughter when the owner of the house returned, but the confusion remained. Plastic fruit was not on the map of the people from Jozo’s village. Not yet.
