ON OPINION (August 23, 2012)
I find it ever easier to express my opinion. Forcefully, too. When I was younger, I hesitated a bit. Although I rarely dithered, I buttressed my arguments with utmost care. As far as I can remember, I measured my words most carefully. I was meticulous to a fault. Thus it took me a while to come up with my innermost thoughts. Or beliefs. Whence my lengthy and tightly argued notes and essays of yesteryear. Things have changed, though. Now I blurt out whatever comes to my mind with utter abandon. And in as few words as possible. This may be either a sign of a budding wisdom or of an encroaching senility. One way or another, I could not care less. Opinion is opinion, after all. The way I see things as of late, this is what is lacking in so much that I come across in print. Yes, yes, I can almost hear myself as I read an article or a book, but where are you in your argument? Put differently, what do you believe in, buster? Spell it out, for crying out loud! Returning to myself, now I am all over the place. Fearlessly, too.
