Today I skimmed through many an excited review of Bob Woodward’s latest book about Barack Obama’s White House, but I could not find a single clear statement about how the journalist got to know so much about the president and his administration. Actually, Obama let Woodward into his house and home. Sheer trust. Minus his family affairs, everything else was up to Woodward’s fancy. This is amazing in itself, and Obama should have been praised for it left and right. After Woodward’s second book, both of which are quite critical, and the second of which is rather scathing, Woodward will not be welcomed back. Even trust has its limits. If Obama loses the upcoming elections, all will be sort of fine. What if he wins them, though? Journalists will surely not be invited to prowl around the White House ever again. This holds true even if Mitt Romney wins the elections, as well. He has learned his lesson, and for free. In retrospect, Woodward was yet another among Obama’s mistakes. Too trusting by half.
