MY FLEETING RETURN TO MOTOVUN (May 2, 2012)

Motovun is ricocheting around my mind once again. The weather has been so wonderful for so long that it is getting hard to forget my sunlit house, the birds darting around the terrace, and the amazing weeds growing helter-skelter in my garden. The only trouble is the memory of the faces of so many nasty characters that spoil the hilltown for me. Although there are no more than a handful of them, they hold many strings in their nimble hands. Thus I am doing my utmost to push them out of my mind. Forever. They are best forgotten once and for all, I keep reminding myself over and over again. But the trick is still beyond my power, I must admit. I cannot but wonder whether I will ever master it, either. Which is why I keep dreading my fleeting return to Motovun in spite of the glorious weather. The nasty characters will make sure to drive me back to Zagreb as soon as possible, I am quite sure.

Addendum (November 30, 2016)

By and by, Motovun is getting ever closer to my heart one more time. The nasty characters in the hilltown are of little or no concern to me any longer. Although it is not exactly pleasant to see their faces, now I walk past them without much trouble. There are only a handful of them, anyway. Ever since my liberation earlier this year, I even feel sorry for them all on occasion. I can imagine how hard it is for them to see me in their midst ever more often. Indeed, I spend relatively little time in Zagreb as of late. My trips there are kind of fleeting nowadays. Which is why the nasty characters must be desperate by now. For all their hopes that I will disappear never to return, I am not only around more and more often, but I can also be regularly spotted in the most public of places around Motovun. One way or another, though, they will have to get used to their fair lot. And I do not plan to kick the bucket any time soon, either.
