In this year’s Corruption Perception Index compiled by Transparency International, Croatia shares the sixty-second place with Slovakia out of one-hundred and seventy-two places in the ranking. Oman is one place ahead, while Ghana and Lesotho share one place behind. Romania is close behind in the sixty-sixth place. And Turkey is some way above Croatia and Slovakia in the fifty-fourth place, which it shares with Malaysia, Latvia, and the Czech Republic. Predictably, Afghanistan, North Korea, and Somalia are at the very bottom of the ranking, while Denmark, Finland, and New Zealand are at the very top. No wonder I wish to leave Croatia and head straight for New Zealand. Transparency International is my guide. Fuck corruption, that is.
