FAIR-WEATHER FRIENDS (May 22, 2012)
The weather in Motovun has been most unwelcoming for a couple of weeks already. It is rainy, windy, wintry. Although June is not more than ten days ahead, the hilltown feels completely abandoned. But I am not complaining about the weather this time around. In fact, I feel thankful for it. It shows perfectly clearly that Motovun is as good as dead without its fair-weather friends, both temporary residents and tourists. The local population has become so scarce that it is invisible and inaudible most of the time. And that is good to know. It takes only a bout of bad weather to make it obvious, too. Minus its fair-weather friends, Motovun is but a ghost town. Amen!
