Browsing through the World Wide Web, which now covers everything under the sun, one is astounded by the lack of anything intellectual. That is passé by now. Intellectuals are few and far between, and those who are still around are ridiculous at best. Slavoj Žižek comes to mind at once. What is going on? The best I can come up with is that people can sense that the time left to this civilization is best spent otherwise. Intellectual endeavors are useless at this stage, for there is no future worth worrying about. The only valid concern is how to spend the remaining years in utter oblivion of things to come. Après nous le déluge. And that is all there is to it. Not a bad idea, it goes without saying, but it still needs some intellectual underpinnings. Or does it? Browsing is about right here and right now, anyway.
