AN IDEA FOR AN EXERCISE IN GEOMANCY (June 23, 2012)
Take a high-resolution map of Istria. Draw straight lines between all places of interest: towns, villages, and hamlets; peaks and springs; solitary churches; monuments old and new; and so on. Look for all patterns of interest: animals, geometric figures, constellations, and the like. Make sure that the most picturesque places are included: Rovinj, the Roman arena in Pula, Motovun, the peak of Učka, the medieval basilica in Poreč, and the like. Select the pattern that strikes you as most beguiling and redraw it on another map of Istria of equal resolution. Write a learned essay about your discovery of ancient ley or dragon lines, which extol the power of geomancy, and publish it on the World Wide Web together with a high-resolution picture of the map. In a few short years, you will be celebrated far and wide as an important artist of the New Age.
