A BIT OF A BAD HABIT (March 2, 2012)

One of the first things I do each morning is check the news in the online editions of several leading newspapers in the world. It is a bit of a bad habit, but there is a good reason for it since late last year. To wit, I am checking whether Israel has attacked Iran yet, for it must sooner or later. Although the number of articles about the imminent attack has been growing the last few months, it is still pending. And pending ever more perilously, too. The main reason for my interest is the uncertainty surrounding the attack. How successful will Israel be? How will Iran react? How will America react to Iran’s reaction? How will the Middle East shape after the attack? How will Russia and China join the fray? The uncertainty of all this is overwhelming. What amazes me is the calm before the storm, though. The world goes on as though there is nothing to worry about. The World War III might be just behind the corner, but everything appears to be hunky-dory. And the best I can do is keep checking the news in the online editions of several leading newspapers in the world. In the bargain, most of the articles I actually find there are moronic to boot. The bad habit’s just reward, I guess.
