A BIT LIKE HOME (May 20, 2012)
I took a walk around Motovun this afternoon. I went down Borgo from my house, up to the cemetery, up Gradiziol, across the lower square, and down Borgo back to my house. This is about twenty minutes of straight walking, but it took me several hours. I stopped to talk with everyone I knew. I went into every shop on the way. I must have talked to between thirty and forty people, all of whom were most happy to see me and gab with me. A wonderful exercise, this. I am very welcome by everyone in the hilltown minus a couple of families. They are important families, at least by local standards, but they boast of no more than a dozen people nonetheless. I will take a walk around Motovun a bit more often now, it goes without saying. After a few more walks like today’s, I will feel much more comfortable in my own house. Soon enough, it may even feel a bit like home once again.
