18:48 (December 5, 2012)
Thus the clock on my mobile phone a few seconds ago. I am startled. The revolution that started in Paris and reached across most of Europe in just a few months. As it happens, I am reading about 1848 in Hungary and its dependent territories, including Croatia, Serbia, Slovakia, and Romania. Revolution! My thoughts immediately take me to 1968, another year I remember in awe. My revolution! The year that changed my life forever. For better or worse, that year will never pop up on my mobile phone. Shucks. A moment later, I find myself thinking of the last year I could ever find on the mobile phone clock: 2359. The last year possible. The end of the world, to be sure. Another prophecy well in advance! And then I shake my head in utter disbelief. Enough. It is only twelve minutes before seven o’clock. And the clock keeps ticking, as it were. And ticking. All the way to the end of the world…
