“UK SINKS DEEPER INTO RECESSION” (July 25, 2012)

Thus the Financial Times today. “Double-dip downturn longest in more than fifty years,” elaborates the newspaper. Wow! And the United Kingdom is far from the only European economy suffering from the same ailment. The recession is back across the subcontinent. But I wonder when will the newspaper dare utter the word “depression.” How long a downturn would be needed for such a feat? Three consecutive quarters? A bit of a respite followed by the third dip? Not to worry, though. They will figure it out sooner or later, but depression is the word they are searching for.
