“MUDDLING THROUGH IS A WESTERN VIEW” (June 25, 2012)
Thus The Guardian in an article about Dambisa Moyo, a controversial economist originally from Zambia. She got a master’s from Harvard and a doctorate from Oxford. The title is her reaction to the west’s complacency in view of terrifying global instability. In her latest book, she praises China for its careful preparations for the future. They are not only economizing with their own resources, but they are also systematically pursuing essential resources all around the globe. “I think we’ll see more wars,” she says in the caption under her picture. So, her last book is a warning to the west. As for my quick reaction, she has hit the nail on the head. Muddling through will surely not do. But I am also a bit dubious of her views of the east. The eastern view may be a bit different, but all the differences are essentially those of style. After all, the Chinese are only human. In the end, muddling through is a global view. Which is why I am wholeheartedly with Moyo when it comes to us seeing more wars.
