“GERMANS WRITE OFF GREECE, SAYS POLL” (September 3, 2012)
Thus the Financial Times today. “Only quarter believe struggling nation should stay in eurozone,” explains the newspaper. What a surprise! The same surely holds for the French and the Dutch, among others, but there are no polls of any importance to report. For only the Germans matter at this stage of the European Union’s development. They will decide the fate of the euro and the Union itself. This is where Merkel is irrelevant, too. She will be forced to do exactly as her electorate pleases. So, more German poll results, please!
