TWENTY-SEVEN HOLES (December 30, 2011)

Leafing through the leading Istrian newspapers earlier today, I came across a hefty article about a golf course on the peninsula. The spatial or physical plan of Barbariga close to Pula now considers as many as twenty-seven holes, nine more than previously. By local standards, this is quite an advance. Of course, Istrian peasants are not concerned about global economic affairs. God forbid! Who cares about such trivia? All they want is the biggest and most opulent golf course in the region. It will take the idiots a little bit of worldly experience to discover that their plans have one huge hole. Give them a few more years, though. Economic development is not within their orbit. But poverty and destitution definitely are. Well, add ignorance and stupidity to that merry list.
